Borgund, Møre Og Romsdal
Borgund is a former municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1837 until 1968 when it was merged into Ålesund Municipality. Borgund originally encompassed the large area north of the Storfjorden and south of the Grytafjorden, from the mainland areas of today's Skodje Municipality in the east to the islands of today's Giske Municipality and the ocean in the west. The city of Ålesund was located in the central part of Borgund, however, was not part of Borgund, and it was governed separately. At its dissolution in 1968, the municipality included the islands of Sula, Humla, Tørla, and Ellingsøya, as well as parts of Oksenøya, Hessa, and Nørvøya, plus many minor islands throughout the area. The main church for the municipality was Borgund Church, located at Borgund (on the western tip of Oksenøya). Borgund Church
Borgund Church ( no, Borgund kyrkje) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Ålesund Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It is located in the village of Borgund, just east of the city of Ålesund. It is the church for the Borgund parish which is part of the Nordre Sunnmøre prosti ( deanery) in the Diocese of Møre. The historic, white, stone church was built in a cruciform design around the year 1300 using plans drawn up by an unknown architect. The church reflects both Romanesque and Gothic architectural styles. The church seats about 750 people. Throughout history, the church was the seat of the large Borgund prestegjeld and later it was the main church for the large Borgund Municipality. Borgund is a former municipality in Sogn og Fjordane county, Norway. It is located in the southeastern part of the traditional district of Sogn. The municipality existed from 1864 until its dissolution in 1964. It encompassed an area in the eastern part of the present-day Lærdal Municipality.
